What do my race fees support?
In its most recent accomplishment, the Dina LaVigna Breath of Life Fund pledged
$750,000 to Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA (Dina’s alma mater) to improve
the facilities in which children spend hours a day receiving the treatment they
need. The result is Dina’s Beach, a 'child friendly' setting that embraces a
'beach' theme (including the construction of a boat that serves as the nursing
station). The dedication and opening of Dina’s Beach occurred on December 6, 2007.
Click here to see photos from the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony.
Dina’s Beach is now a critical component of what is the most outstanding PI research,
treatment and outreach diagnostic center in the world sponsored by the Jeffrey
Modell Foundation (JMF). The Dina LaVigna Breath of Life Fund intends to continue
its financial support of the state of the art facility. This will be
to meet our financial pledges to UCLA for Dina’s Beach, to finish the work that
still needs to be done there, and to make sure that it remains the world
standard for providing the best environment possible for those children who
need to spend hours receiving necessary treatment. We are also pursuing a number of minor
projects in other hospitals also with the aim of making their treatment
sessions more bearable. One hope is that in a small way, we can improve the infusion
environment at Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles (Dina received excellent care there when
she was a child), and with other University Hospitals affiliated with JMF.
Proceeds from this charity event will go towards support of these goals.
